Lucas Conrad Elmendorf 1758-1853
Lucas Conrad Elmendorf (1758–1843) of Kingston, New York, was a lawyer and Princeton graduate who served three terms in the U.S. Congress (1797–1803). He later held offices in the New York Assembly, Senate, and Ulster County courts.

Lucas Conrad Elmendorf was born in Kingston, NY in 1758. He graduated from Princeton College in 1782 and was one of its earliest graduates. Following his college studies he studied law and was admitted to the NY Bar in 1785 and began to practice law.
In 1794 he ran without success for election in the Fourth U.S. Congress. In 1796 he ran again for the U.S. Congress and was elected as a Republican to it and to the following two congressional sessions. In other words he served in the fourth, fifth and sixth U.S. Congresses from March 1797 until March 1803.
He declined to be nominated for his fourth term. He became a member of the NY State Assembly in 1804 and 1805 and served in the NY Senate from 1814 to 1817.
While in the NY Senate he became a First Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, now County Court of Ulster County and served from1815 to 1821. He was the Surrogate of Ulster County from 1835 to 1840.
Lucas Conrad Elmendorf passed away in Kingston, NY on August 17, 1843 at the rather advanced age of 95. He was interred in the crypt of the First Dutch Church, Kingston, NY.
