DESCRIPTION:Presented live on Zoom \nFree \nIn his new biography\, Vermeer: A Life Lost and Found (Norton\, 2026)\, Andrew Graham-Dixon offers a startling new perspective on one of history’s most beloved artists. Join Russell Shorto as he talks to Graham-Dixon about Vermeer’s unique milieu and recounts the detective work that led him to unravel these mysterious paintings. \nAndrew Graham-Dixon is an art historian\, author and broadcaster who has made numerous landmark series for the BBC. He was for many years the main art critic of the Sunday Telegraph and Independent newspapers. His books include Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel\, and Caravaggio: A Life Sacred and Profane. \nRussell Shorto is the director of the New Amsterdam Project at The New York Historical. He is the author of seven books\, including Taking Manhattan and the national bestseller The Island at the Center of the World. \nLive From New Amsterdam is an ongoing series hosted by the New Netherland Institute and the New Amsterdam Project at The New York Historical. Join New Netherland Institute director Deborah Hamer as she talks to Dr. Anna Danziger Halperin\, Director of the Center for Women’s History at New York Historical\, about the new exhibition Revolutionary Women (opening May 29) Learn more about what women did during the American Revolution and how New York’s women coped with the British occupation. \n \nAnna Danziger Halperin is the Director of the Jean Margo Reid Center for Women’s History at The New York Historical. Anna received her doctorate from Columbia University and her research has been published in academic outlets such as American Historical Review and Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society as well as featured in popular media including the New York Times\, Washington Post\, PBS NewsHour\, Time\, and Vox. Since joining the Center for Women’s History in 2019\, she has curated many exhibitions and special installations\, including The New York Sari (Closing April 26) and the upcoming semiquincentennial exhibition\, Revolutionary Women. \nDeboarah Hamer Executive Director\, the New Netherland Institute \nDeborah Hamer is Director of the New Netherland Institute\, where she is responsible for initiatives aimed at identifying\, preserving\, digitizing\, and translating Dutch language documents in repositories around the world. She is a historian of the Dutch Atlantic world and received her Ph.D. from Columbia University. \nLive From New Amsterdam is an ongoing series hosted by the New Netherland Institute and the New Amsterdam Project at The New York Historical.
